Die Entscheidung Capcom´s im Jahre 1993, das Mega Drive ebenfalls mit seinem Mega-Blockbuster Street Fighter II (und später auch mit dem Sequel Super Street Fighter II) zu versorgen, gibt diesem Genre auf dem Mega Drive dann endgültig die entscheidende Würze, da die sonstigen Spiele wie SEGA´s eigene Eternal Champions und die Streets of Rage Reihe oder die im Vergleich zu den SNES-Versionen unzensierten Mortal Kombat Teile zwar sehr gut sind, aber nicht den Status eines Street Fighter II erreichen.
